Stacey Mitchell, Bear Clan

Stacey Mitchell is an Indigenous artist and designer whose work bridges tradition and contemporary fashion. Growing up, she learned traditional crafts as a child; after high school, she began learning how to sew, a skill that quickly became central to her creative practice.
   Stacey first focused on sewing traditional regalia, developing a deep respect for the materials, symbolism, and craftsmanship involved in cultural garments. As her skills grew, she expanded her work beyond regalia and began designing contemporary clothing that carries the influence of traditional Indigenous art forms.
   She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Syracuse University, where she continued to refine her artistic voice and explore the intersection of heritage and modern design. Following her studies, Mitchell began creating clothing collections and participating in Indigenous fashion shows, sharing her work with broader audiences.
   Her designs often infuse traditional arts with modern clothing, blending cultural motifs, techniques, and storytelling with contemporary silhouettes. Through her work, Stacey Mitchell celebrates Indigenous identity while contributing to the evolving landscape of Indigenous fashion.
